SALEM, OR — March 10, 2020 “When you’re running a campaign, filing day is almost as exciting as election day,” said State Senator Kim Thatcher (R-Keizer). “It’s an important benchmark for candidates willing to step up and make a commitment to seek public office and serve their community and their state.”

Senator Thatcher submitted her official paperwork today to run in the Republican primary for Secretary of State with the State Elections Division.  Today was the deadline for candidates to file to run in the May 19th Oregon Primary Election.

“The people who put their names on the ballot and run for elected positions, no matter what party affiliation, should be commended,” explained Senator Thatcher. “Campaigning isn’t easy, but getting to know and help others in the community can be rewarding.”

Thatcher announced her candidacy for Secretary of State during the Timber Unity Rally on the Capitol Steps February 6th. During the rally, volunteers gathered nearly 850 signatures (500 required) to assist the Senator in getting her voters’ pamphlet statement published without having to pay the usual $3,000 fee.

“After the events at the capitol the past several weeks, now perhaps more than ever, Oregon needs more leaders who promote accountability, transparency, and integrity,” added Thatcher. “I’ve always advocated for those values in our state government and hope to continue upholding those principles as our next Secretary of State.”

Senator Thatcher was first elected to the legislature in 2004 and served in the House of Representatives from 2005 to 2014. She has been a member of the Senate since 2015. Thatcher started her road construction related businesses around 28 years ago.
